International community rises against AFSPA, supports Sharmila

Imphal, Nov 5 : Sit in protest were organized by Sharmila Kanba Lup as Irom Sharmila completed eleven years of fast demanding repeal of the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 (AFSPA).
Protests were held in North America, European countries and different states of the country.
Sharmila was nominated to the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded the 2007 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights, shared the award with Lenin Raghuvanshi of People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights, Rabindranath Tagore Peace Prize 2010 Sarva Gunah Sampannah ‘ Award for Peace and Harmony” , Mayillama Award (Kerala).
In Turkey 8–11 December 2010 The Which Human Rights Festival organized by the Turkish Human Rights Group the Documentarist was dedicated to Irom Sharmila .
Today 10 a.m to 6 p.m a protest march has set out from Mahatma Gandhi International University to District Magistrate, Wardha, Maharastra in support of Irom Sharmila by the Teaching Faculties, Staffs, Students including North-East and Civil Society of Wardha and Nagpur. Among the civil society Yuva Sangathan, Kisan Sangathan, Magan Sagrahalay and thousands of people etc was present in the rally. A Memorandum in the name of President Pratibha Patil to remove AFSPA from North- East has been submitted to the District Magistrate, Wardha As a part of the protest On 2nd November also a discussion programe on AFSPA was organized by Debating Society, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha. An effective program was also held with a street play and Documentary film show on Sharmila giving speech by of Vice Chancellor Vibhuti Narayan Rai, Prf. Ramsharan Joshi, Mass communication and Media Department, Dr. Avantika Shukla asst. prof, Women Sudies, Dr. Sharad Jaiswal, Dr. Anwar Ahmmed Sidikki, Assistant Prof .Tranaslation and Interpretation , Thokchom kamala Devi Research student , Informatics and Language Engineering and some other Research sudents.
The programme was conducted by Dr, Surj
eet Kumar Singh , Assistant Prof. Buddhist Sudies. Dr. Priti Sagar, Reader, Comparative Literature gave vote of Thanks .Prof K.K Singh of Comparative Literature, and other teaching , non teaching staffs and students were present in that programme.On the presidential sppech V.C. Vibhuti Narayan Rai gave deatails about the internal conflicts in Manipur wishing to reduce it. He further said to the North easterns to behave as to get the support from other states. He gave a opinion to remove AFSPA from Manipur and to support Irom Chanu Sharmila.
